YOU DID IT! You completed 4 grueling years (or 5 or 6, whatever) of college. You cracked dozens of books, studied for countless hours, took countless exams, and you have your diploma in hand. Now what?
You're ready to hit the ground running in the "real world" with your new apartment, new outlook, and most importantly a new job. But first you must go through the gauntlet of the dreaded interview. Interviews are intimidating and can sometimes feel like a super awkward first date. Yikes. We're here to help you out a little bit. We can't make it easy, but we can help you prepare.
Resume They are tedious to create but important! Do not underestimate the power of a fantastic resume. You must use proper English (none of that text lingo nonsense) and consistent formatting. There are plenty of free resources available to help you create a great resume so use them.
Threads Everyone knows how important first impressions are! You must look presentable and professional the instant your prospective employer sees you. They see that if you care about your appearance, you will care about your job. Fellas, you do not necessarily need a suit, but you must wear nice pants, a clean & crisp shirt, a tie, and a jacket. Ladies, you know the deal ... be professional and not too revealing. You can't go wrong with a pencil skirt paired with a colorful blouse.
Hair Go out and get yourself a nice fresh cut. Be sure to get a decent hairstyle going as well - do not have your hair hanging in your eyes.
Skin Treat yo'self with a refreshing facial or light peel. Ladies, if you usually wear makeup, follow your normal routine, but do not wear too much - you're not going to the club!
Sleep Eight hours of uninterrupted sleep will do wonders for you skin, your alertness, and your mood. Make sure you get enough ZZZs so you look ready for anything.
Exercise Get all that nervous energy out with a little exercise. Whatever is fun and gets your heart pumping, do it!
Our most important tip? Be your fabulous self! Have confidence that you are worth your weight in gold, and it will radiate from within you.
Good luck and stay tuned for part 2 of our interview prep blog series (coming May 27).
