4 Bad Skin Habits You'll Want to Break ASAP

Why is it that as soon as you face up to the fact that summer is gone (RIP lazy pool days and beach trips) and you’re back in class - your skin always seem to throw a fit? As you stare in the mirror at the zit that dared show its ugly self overnight you wonder “I cleanse, I moisturize, I even exfoliate -- why me!”

To keep your summer glow and be the clear skin envy of just about everyone on campus, make sure you’re not falling into these sneaky bad skin habits at school:

1. Talking On Your Phone Everyone has a smartphone these days. But did you know the constant swiping and tapping of your dirty fingers on the screen can actually transfer germs onto your face?

Yep, hold your phone against your cheek for long enough, and all sorts of nasties will soon make their way onto your skin.

Before you get any ideas, we’re not encouraging you to skip your weekly chat with Mom and Dad. Instead, have a face to face with them on Skype or FaceTime, or just use your headphones.

2. Over Indulging In Fat-Free Dairy Sometimes the only thing that gets you through a long night of studying are copious amounts of coffee and PIZZA. Listen, we get it, you need your fix.

But your skin isn’t going to be too happy seeing that fat-free dairy is responsible for causing inflammation in the body because of the added sugars. This inflammation can show itself in many ways, one of the most common being acne.

Try and curb your habit by switching to fat-free-dairy alternatives like almond milk or full-fat dairy like whole milk. It may take some time to get used to, but your taste buds will soon fall in line and your skin will thank you.

3. Forgetting Your Sunscreen With beach days fading into the past, it’s easy to forget that sunscreen is still your friend and should definitely not be forgotten.

Remember when we gave you a mini lesson in sun-care vocab? It’s good to keep that lesson bookmarked all year long, even when it’s cloudy outside. Or, just keep your SPF 30 Screen in your bag so you never forget. No brainer.

4. Skipping A Wash After The Gym

Skipping a wash after getting your reps in is not only a great way to lose friends, it’s a great way to get wrinkles (ugh!).

A gym sweat sesh’ might make you look all glowy, but when you let the dirt and grime linger for too long, you open yourself up to skin woes like wrinkles, breakouts, and dull skin.

So go on, remember to wash your face after the gym with a daily facial cleanser.

Curb your habits just a little bit, and you’ll be on your way to clear skin all year long. Do you have any more tips to share? Pop them in the comments below; we’re always happy to hear from you!
